How to Trace an Email with Its Full Headers?

For an email you received in Google email, you can easily check where the email came from by looking at its header section, including how it got from the email sender to the recipient’s email servers.

View your mail’s full headers

  1. Sign in Gmail.
  2. Click to open the email you want to check the headers for the email.
  3. Now click at Next to Reply (arrow icon), click at the Down arrow icon.
  4. Click “Show original”.

The headers information will show in a new window tab, including fields like authentication results.

Inbox by Google email

  1. Open Gmail inbox.
  2. Now click on the email you want to see the headers for.
  3. Inside the message section, click at more (button) > “Show original”.

The headers information will show in a new window.

How to read email full headers

  1. Click to open the email you want to check the headers for.
  2. Next to Reply (arrow icon), click the Down arrow (button).
  3. Now click to “Show original”.
  4. Copy the text on the web page.
  5. Now open the email header tool.
  6. Click Paste your email’s headers > “Analyze the header above”.

See if email (message) is delayed

  1. Click to open the email you want to check the full headers for.
  2. Next to Reply (button), click the Down arrow button.
  3. Click “Show original”.
  4. Next to “Created at,” tab checks how much time it took for the mail to be delivered after it was sent to the recipient.
